I’m looking for Jesse Guthrie who wrote “The American Schoolmaster’s Assistant; being a compendius system of Vulgar and Decimal Arithmetic” 1804 by Jessie Guthrie of Kentucky. Published in Lexington, had multiple editions. I believe he was born in VA, died in Posey Co Indiana in 1823, his will was probated there. Some have him dying in KY. I believe he is the son of William Guthrie and Eleanor Abbott. I am surprised he is not listed in famous Guthries under literature since this book became an important text book in early 1800’s America. Thanks for any help offered.
